How I would use the web sites we learned about

I teach Spanish, Model UN, and SAT prep. at CSW:

1) In SAT prep. I would use freerice.com to motivate the students to learn more vocabulary in a fun way.

The student who donates the most grains of rice wins a prize!

2) In Spanish I would use vozme.com or yabla.com (similar) so that the students can hear native

speakers of Spanish.

3) In Model UN we talk a lot about micro-lending in developing countries so a cool project might be

doing fund-raising and making a loan to a country using kiva.org. Also, worldmapper.org and

google maps could be very useful in both Spanish when we do cultural projects and in Model UN.

So far I have learned the difference between a kilobyte, megabyte, and terabyte. This is my first experience with blogging… very exciting! For example, if I asked my Spanish V students to read a short story, I might pose a critical thinking question to write a blog about for homework. Then, the next night they could pick a blog that one of their classmates wrote to comment on, and initiate a debate that will carry over into class the next day. Just a thought. I’m new to this.
